If you are looking for a short trek, a weekend getaway, or a spiritual retreat, the Bijli Mahadev Temple Trek is an excellent choice. This guide will cover everything you need to know about planning your trip in 2025—how to reach, trekking details, places to stay, food, budget, and practical tips.

Our Personal Experience Trekking to Bijli Mahadev Temple

One night, the four of us friends suddenly decided to head out for the Bijli Mahadev Temple Trek. We had been planning this trip for a long time, so after a small house gathering on Friday night, we finally left, planning to return by Monday morning for work.

We started from Delhi around Saturday midnight for Kullu, which is about 450–500 km away. It took us roughly 10 hours to reach there. From Kullu, we drove to Chansari Village, which is the starting point of the trek.

Reaching Chansari Village: From Kullu, the trek to Bijli Mahadev Temple is about 3 km. We started this trek on Saturday night itself, as it wasn’t very long or difficult. It took us approximately 40–60 minutes to reach the top. On this trek, you’ll mostly find steep paths to climb.

At the top, we stayed in tents that charged ₹600 per person, including breakfast. The trek is extremely beautiful, full of greenery, peaceful, and offers breathtaking views. From the top, you can see the entire Kullu Valley, enjoy horse rides, and explore the large open ground there. Overall, it was a wonderful and enjoyable experience.

Note: If you are trekking at night, be careful, as locals say bears sometimes come around. Make sure you carry a stick or something similar for safety. Also, please do not litter, as I saw a lot of trash during the trek.

After that, we shot a video for our YouTube channel. Please subscribe and check out our Bijli Mahadev Temple video!

About Bijli Mahadev Temple

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the most sacred shrines in Himachal Pradesh. It gets its name from the Hindi word “Bijli” which means lightning, and “Mahadev”, another name for Lord Shiva.

According to legend, every time lightning strikes the temple, the Shiva Lingam inside breaks into pieces. The priests then carefully bind the lingam back together using butter and local clay. This fascinating ritual symbolizes the eternal cycle of destruction and creation.

Apart from its mythological significance, the temple is also famous for the stunning 360-degree views of the Kullu, Parvati, and Bhuntar valleys.

How to Reach Bijli Mahadev

If you’re planning a trip to Bijli Mahadev, here’s a simple breakdown of how to get there and what you can expect.

By Road

We started our journey from Delhi to Kullu, which is about 450–500 km. It took us nearly 10 hours to reach Kullu by car, following the route:
Delhi → Chandigarh → Mandi → Kullu

From Kullu, the trek to Bijli Mahadev begins at Chansari Village, which is around 1 hour’s drive from Kullu. The road is mostly off-road and one-way, which makes the drive a little time-consuming. Since we had our own car, we drove there directly, but travelers can also hire a local taxi or take a bus from Kullu to reach Chansari.

Budget Breakdown (Approx. Per Person)

  • Delhi to Kullu (Bus): ₹1,200 – ₹1,500

  • Delhi to Kullu (Car/Shared): ₹1,000 – ₹1,200

  • Taxi from Kullu to Chansari: ₹500 – ₹700

  • Local Bus (Kullu to Chansari): ₹100 – ₹150

  • Tent Stay + Breakfast: ₹600

  • Food & Miscellaneous: ₹500 – ₹800

👉 Total Budget for a 2-day Trip: ₹3,500 – ₹4,500 (approx.)

This way, you can plan your journey to Bijli Mahadev smoothly without worrying about routes or expenses.
